“It didn’t help us” – Millwall boss Gary Rowett on goal celebration at QPR

Gary Rowett felt Millwall’s goal celebration didn’t help their cause in today’s 1-1 draw with QPR.

Jed Wallace fired the Lions ahead and then ran the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of the 2,500 travelling supporters.

“I don’t necessarily think that that helped us,” said Rowett. “All of the players sprinted to the fans which I can understand, the emotions of the game and it is what football is about – it’s what we’ve all missed.

“It was nice for Jed. He showed his situation at the moment [being inside the final 12 months of his contract] certainly won’t affect him. He wants to play well for the club and play well for the fans. He’ll relish those moments. He’s a big game player.

“But if you look we lost a bit of energy in the last 10 minutes. Maybe we’ll reserve some of those celebrations for the right time, later in the game.”

Rowett was asked about Wallace’s future.

“There is no change,” he said. “I’ve spoken about it before it is exactly the same situation. And any comment I make will be flipped into a number of stories. We are where we are.

“It was a great goal and he performed really well, particularly in the first half – it was a good partnership with Benik. If we can get them a little more service then I think those two can certainly be a real handful.”

  • Same Old same old – not enough threat up front
Manager comes out with some rubbish – where was Thommo – lining him up for sale??
Just because he was at MFC before the manager was doesn’t mean he has to get rid of him??
He is better than some of his acquisitions!!
