‘It’s been handled in an extremely good fashion’ – Millwall boss Alex Neil provides positive review
Millwall head coach Alex Neil has praised the work done by everyone at the club since he replaced Neil Harris as head coach at the end of December.
The former Norwich City, Stoke and Preston boss was appointed after Harris, the club’s all-time record goalscorer and man who led the Lions out of League One to the Championship, opted to step down.
Millwall are seventh in the form guide for the last six matches, taking 11 points over that period.
They have also progressed to the fifth round of the FA Cup.
Neil, speaking after Saturday’s 1-1 draw against West Brom, said: “I think the club, myself, the staff and players have done extremely well in the short period of time we’ve been here. And that’s not me blowing my own trumpet or anybody elses.
“We came in playing Saturday-Tuesday, Saturday-Tuesday nearly every week. I’ve had two clean weeks. One building into Dagenham and one building into Leeds, both cup games, so I haven’t had a clean week even for a league game.
“For the players to take onboard what I’m asking them to do – mid-season, with no pre-season, an influx of signings, people out of contract in the summer and all the dynamics that works with – I think everybody has handled it in an extremely good fashion.
“What you can see is that we performed very well today against one of the teams that is in the play-offs and ready to try and get out of the league.
“I don’t think we can ask much more, right now, than what everyone has done. Today we’d have loved to have won. Did we deserve to win? Yeah. But they are probably just the small margins we need to try and put in our favour.”
