‘It’s fine margins, isn’t it?’ – AFC Wimbledon boss talks through appointment of former Crystal Palace coach

Johnnie Jackson says Dave Reddington’s appointment gives AFC Wimbledon the best opportunity to be successful in the upcoming campaign.

Former Crystal Palace first-team coach Reddington joined after leaving Danish Superlig side Aarhus Gymnastikforening (AGF).

Reddington joined Palace in 2004 and held various roles within the club’s academy over two separate spells before being promoted to join Roy Hodgson’s first-team coaching staff in 2018, working with Wilfried Zaha and Eberechi Eze.

Rob Tuvey left Jackson’s coaching staff to explore a new opportunity and Reddington was announced as the new first-team coach.

He joined Ashley Bayes and Terry Skiverton in completing Jackson’s immediate first team staff.

“Dave has great experience now,” ex-Charlton boss Jackson told the South London Press.

“He did three years in the Premier League under Roy and Ray – what better people to learn from?

“He built up some great experience there and then went abroad for three years. He’s been out in Denmark and that showed bravery to get out of your comfort zone and do something different.

“It was a new experience with a new country at the top level in Denmark.

“When I spoke to Dave and found out he was coming home, I thought it was a good opportunity for the football club to get a really good coach in amongst us.

“It’s fine margins, isn’t it? People talk about players and the recruitment side of it, but if we can have the best staff possible, it gives us the best opportunity to be successful.”
