Jadon Sancho transfer twist potential as Chelsea can pay to send South Londoner back to Manchester United

Chelsea could send loanee Jadon Sancho back to Manchester United – after the emergence of a get-out clause in the deal to sign him – but would still need to pay £5million.

The Blues signed the Camberwell-born winger from the Red Devils during the summer and Sancho has made 28 appearances at Stamford Bridge.

The deal struck between the league rivals included an obligation to buy for between £20m and £25m, as long as the west Londoners finished at least 14th in the Premier League this season.

Ex-Borussia Dortmund forward Sancho has two goals and six assists in all competitions under Enzo Maresca.

The 24-year-old has failed to register a goal contribution in his last nine Premier League outings.

“That player has talent – everybody knows this,” former Chelsea defender William Gallas told Stadium Astro after the 1-0 defeat at Arsenal when asked about Sancho’s future. “We don’t know why he can’t perform or show what he can do. The question is why?

“He was magnificent at Dortmund. When he went to Manchester United, it didn’t work well for him. He came to Chelsea and at the beginning, it was a feeling we were going to see the Sancho from Dortmund, but he disappeared.

“Right now it doesn’t look like he can stay at Chelsea. You have to do more to play in the Premier League. You have to play every game at a high level.

“It’s not easy. You can’t play for a few games and then chill out. You have to stay at that high level throughout the season.”

Chelsea are reportedly targeting another winger this summer despite recently completing a £42m deal for Sporting Lisbon’s Geovany Quenda.

The 17-year-old will not join the Blues until the start of the 2026-27 season.

There is uncertainty over Mykhailo Mudryk’s future after the forward was provisionally suspended by FA in December over an ‘adverse finding’ in a urine test.
