Jake Cooper “disappointed” how Millwall reacted to Hull City winger’s stunning free-kick

Jake Cooper has expressed his disappointment at the way Millwall reacted after Kamil Grosicki’s spectacular strike in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Hull City.

The Lions were dominant and led through Jed Wallace’s penalty before the Poland winger bent in a 35-yard free-kick.

“I’m a bit disappointed how we reacted to the goal and we’ll need to look at that,” said Cooper.

“It was almost like the shock of it. We’d been very defensively solid and when we scored I think most of us thought we could take this game away from Hull. For them to get a goal like that knocked us as a team – not individually. It took us a bit of time to get back into the game.

“I certainly didn’t expect him to shoot from there. If he did [mean it] he pulled off a worldie.

“We dominated most parts of the game. Their goal took us a bit by surprise, we didn’t react well to that. We picked ourselves up and performed really well in the second half.

“We thoroughly deserved to get the second goal but maybe the attacking threat wasn’t quite there to create the chances.

“Lenny [Ryan Leonard] has a great chance to score and that changes the game.”
Millwall’s only reverse this season in the league came at the hands of one of the promotion favourites – Fulham – and they are 12th in the Championship table.

“Maybe we could have picked up more points in the last two games but one defeat in the first six games – it’s a credit to us,” said Cooper. “We’ve started really well and we’ll look to keep moving forward after this international break.

“We’ll come back full of confidence.

“There is a great vibe in the group and it’s really helped us up until now.”
