Jake Cooper sees red as Millwall lose 2-1 at Sheffield Wednesday

Millwall posted a battling performance against Sheffield Wednesday but saw Jake Cooper sent off in a narrow 2-1 defeat at Hillsborough, writes Ricky Charlesworth.
Hosts Wednesday went in front after just three minutes when Adam Reach slotted home Morgan Fox’s centre inside the box.
Millwall showed typical fight to work their way back into the contest and duly levelled up on 13 minutes through Tom Elliott on his first Championship start.
Fred Onyedinma capitalised on a Wednesday error and his shot was parried into the path of Elliott who prodded home from an acute angle.

Despite positive play from the visitors, Wednesday’s Jordan Rhodes put the hosts back in front on 43 minutes with a header from a corner.
Cooper went close twice after the break but nodded straight at the keeper before prodding wide when surging into the box soon after.
Wednesday sub Steven Fletcher almost increased the hosts’ lead when he headed against the post late on and there was further misery for Neil Harris’ side when Cooper earned a second yellow card in stoppage time.
The Lions’ winless run away from home in the second tier now stretches to 16 games.
