Jed Wallace in contention for first Millwall start in almost two months

Jed Wallace could be set to make his first Millwall start in nearly two months in tonight’s derby at Championship leaders Fulham.

The attacker was ruled out with a quad injury from the back end of December and only returned for the 0-0 draw with Preston North End on February 1.

Wallace’s last start was in the 2-1 defeat at Peterborough United on December 11.

He was the subject of at least two bids from Nottingham Forest in the January transfer window. The former Portsmouth and Wolves player is out of contract at the start of July.

Lions boss Gary Rowett said: “Jed has worked hard to get back from injury. He’s not once come to see me and said ‘I want to leave the club’ or anything like that.

“We’ve been aware of his contractual situation for a while and that happens. It’s every player’s right. He has earned the right to see what his options are – as much as we’d love him to re-sign.

“There is so much speculation and stories – there was a lot of stuff behind the scenes, out of our control, that I don’t think was particularly helpful to the club.

“If I’m being honest it was a destablising period. When you get all that speculation about one of your best players it affects the other players as well – you’d be stupid not to think that.

“It’s really nice to get it over with. It’s great to still have Jed as an option for us. I look forward to getting the best out of Jed, and the team, for the last 18 games.

“Jed has shown how popular a player he is and his commitment to the club. What we want is either him to stay or leave on good terms and be respected for the good job he has done.

“We’ll keep trying and see what happens in the last three months.”
