Jed Wallace makes Den claim ahead – as Millwall attacker wants home form upturn

Jed Wallace reckons home advantage doesn’t exist any more as Millwall aim for their second Championship victory of the season tomorrow.

The Lions will look to take down Cardiff City as former Den chief Neil Harris returns to SE16 for the first time since quitting 11 months ago.

Wallace reckons the fact that no fans have been allowed in stadiums since March due to the Covid-19 pandemic has changed the dynamics for the opposition. He said: “Home and away has been voided with the lockdown.

“You don’t have that advantage now. We miss the fans. If you asked most Championship players what game they would pick to take place behind closed doors then they would probably pick Milwall away.”

The Lions have taken 41 points on the road since the start of last season – a figure only bettered by Bristol City (45), Swansea City (44), Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion (both 43).

“The counter-attack suits us more away from home,” said Wallace. “But that Derby game we lost 3-2 last season – I don’t believe that would happen if it had been a sold-out stadium.

“But it is what it is – we have to learn to adjust and ultimately it is down to the players, especially myself, to take more responsibility at key moments. We need to show more quality, at times, to turn those 0-0s into 1-0 wins. We don’t need to change too much, we’re doing really, really well.

“It’s a credit to the manager that there are going to some fans fuming if we finish 10th – it shows how well Gary has done since he has been here and what a good manager he is.

“At times people need to stay a little realistic and remember and realise we’re going up against sides who have paid £5million for a player and they are sitting on the bench – the likes of Bristol City with [Famara] Diedhiou and Blackburn with [Sam] Gallagher.”
