Joe Kizzi’s goal boosts Bromley’s National League play-off hopes

Andy Woodman insists that Bromley’s play-off ambitions are in their own hands after they beat Wealdstone on Tuesday evening.

Joe Kizzi’s second-half strike was enough to secure all three points for the Ravens.

Bromley have won six of their last eight matches and the victory against Wealdstone moves them up to eighth in the National League. Only goal difference separates them and FC Halifax, who occupy the last play-off place with three games remaining.

Speaking to Bromley’s club website, Woodman said: “That was a very important win.

“I always knew this would be a hard game, this was the game I feared. It was an ugly and horrible game but at this stage of the season, it’s about results and staying in the pack and at the moment I look at it, like it’s still in our hands. We’ve got some big games coming up now.

“We weren’t brave enough on the ball in the first half. I want my team to be brave and I understand this pitch wasn’t great but we have to be braver, pass the ball quicker and we didn’t do that.

“It was great for Joe [Kizzi to get the winner], I was delighted for him and the team because we’ve worked so hard to get ourselves in this position. I keep saying it but there is some big clubs we’re competing with. We’re going to keep fighting to try and get into the play-offs and then stay in there.

“Alex Mitchell is going to be looked at tomorrow [after he came off through injury], we’re not sure what the problem is. Him going off was a blow for us, but that’s the beauty of this tight-knit squad. We have got Byron Webster and Jack Holland, who both can come on. Ever since I’ve been here, there’s been changes most games because I don’t want the players getting complacent. I want the players to be hungry to play in this team. We saw that tonight, Jack Holland has been desperate to come on and when he did he was ready. The most important thing is, you don’t want players who aren’t in the team not ready to come into the team.

“All the remaining games are big games. But what we have to do now is, we have to look at these three games and make sure we go about our business properly, which we have done recently. We’re on a great run but we still haven’t reached our in-house target.

“I’ve just said to the lads, we set ourselves a personal goal and we haven’t hit that just yet. When we hit our goal, we will start to talk more openly about the play-offs.”
