Johnnie Jackson: AFC Wimbledon winger will get opportunities

AFC Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson says Ryan McLean will get opportunities with upcoming games set to test his squad depth.

The 23-year-old joined the Dons in the summer, switching from non-league Hereford to full-time football.

McLean is still waiting for his first League Two appearance but he scored the winner in first round EFL Cup 2-1 win over Coventry.

The winger’s first start came in the 1-1 EFL Trophy draw with Stevenage but has been absent from the last four matchday squads.

“It’s a selection headache,” Jackson told the South London Press.

“He’s been really unlucky. It’s one of those things.

“If you bring him in and then someone else misses out – it’s the way it has fallen at the minute.

“He’s training well and showing the right attitude – there will be opportunities.

“We’re going to have this [friendly] game next week and then we have another three-game week after that and then we have EFL Trophy games around the corner as well – the squad will be tested.

“When the team is going so well, it’s difficult to make wholesale changes – you’re reluctant to tinker with it too much.”
