Johnnie Jackson assesses Charlton Athletic loanee’s AFC Wimbledon spell so far

Johnnie Jackson says that AFC Wimbledon are just starting to see what Charlton Athletic loanee Diallang Jaiyesimi can do after having his spell hampered by injury.

The winger joined the Dons on loan on the last day of the January transfer window, with Ayoub Assal being sold to Al-Wakrah and Nathan Young-Coombes being recalled by Brentford.

Ex-Swindon player Jaiyesimi has only made seven appearances at Plough Lane, picking up a hamstring injury towards the end of February.

The 24-year-old started back-to-back games for the first time on Monday since joining the Dons, starting against Harrogate away on Friday and against Salford three days later.

Jaiyesimi grabbed an assist for Ali Al-Hamadi’s eighth of the season in the 58th minute to put Wimbledon 2-1 up.

The Dons fell to a 3-2 defeat after two goals in second-half injury time from Salford.

“We bought DJ in after losing Assal in the window,” said Jackson following the defeat to play-off chasing Salford.

“You’re looking to bring a ready replacement in. We highlighted that in DJ, but he got injured again and missed a big period.

“We’re only just getting him back and starting to see what he can do. We missed him for that big chunk, which made it more difficult.”
