Johnnie Jackson: Ben Purrington can score double figures for Charlton this season
Ben Purrington has been told he can hit double figures for Charlton Athletic this season. The left wing-back has scored in successive League One matches for the Addicks after putting them in front in today’s 2-0 win over League One leaders Plymouth Argyle.
The 25-year-old is on four goals for the 2021-22 campaign, with three of those coming in the league.
Charlton caretaker manager Johnnie Jackson, asked about Purrington being in a rich vein of scoring form, said: “That’s not a fluke though.
“He’s got a knack of it. He makes good runs. He’s got the energy and fitness to get in those positions constantly – and he can finish. He has missed a couple as well, so he should be on more goals than what he’s on!
“I’ve told him: ‘You can get double figures from that position. You’ve got to be willing to get in at that back post – I scored a couple there myself – that’s the key. You’ve got to be willing to gamble and there will be times when you make your run and you don’t get it. But if you keep popping up in the right areas and positions, there are goals to be had at that back post.”
