Johnnie Jackson makes ‘poor’ admission after AFC Wimbledon suffer Boxing Day defeat at home to Sutton

AFC Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson admitted his side were “poor” during their 1-0 defeat at home to Sutton United on Boxing Day.

The visitors took the lead in the 62nd minute when Ryan Jackson’s long throw bounced along the face of goal for Omar Sowunmi to head past Alex Bass.

Sutton recorded their first away win of the League Two campaign and claimed their first clean sheet, ending a 10-game waiting run in the process.

Wimbledon had more shots and possession than Sutton but were unable to build on their 2-1 win at Crawley on Friday.

“It was surprising with our performance – we dipped below our levels,” said Jackson.

“That’s not been us and that’s not how we have been playing consistently now. 

“That was as poor as we have been for quite a while now. 

“I didn’t see it coming. We fell below the standards we have set oursleves of late.

“It was a bad day at the office and the disappointment was that we didn’t do enough of the things that had been getting us success.

“We didn’t test Sutton out enough and we didn’t ask enough questions.

“Everything fell below the standard we have been at.

Jackson was absent from the touchline after being sent off in Wimbledon’s last outing, with assistant manager Terry Skiverton and first team coach Rob Tuvey leading out the side.

“It was frustrating,” admitted Jackson, who watched the game from the directors’ box.

“You have a better view of the game up there but you feel a bit detached.

“It was strange not being down below but I don’t think that had any impact on the game or performance.”
