Johnnie Jackson on plans for AFC Wimbledon after penning new contract

Johnnie Jackson is targeting promotion to League One with AFC Wimbledon after signing a new two-year deal in midweek.

The former Charlton boss signed fresh terms alongside his assistant Terry Skiverton on Thursday.

Wimbledon moved within a point of the League Two play-off spots with a 2-0 win over automatic promotion hopefuls Barrow on Saturday.

Jackson has managed the Dons on 96 occasions across all competitions since joining at the start of the 2022-23 season.

“I was really pleased to get that sorted this week – there was no getting away from that,” said Jackson.

“It wasn’t about that or me today, it was about us doing what we do well.

“Knowing we were in a really tough game and whether we could back up a good win at home last time and a good point on the road at Bradford.

“All the focus has been on performance. As great a week as it has been for me and Terry, it was about the lads today and what they did out there on the pitch.

“We have moved the club forward a lot this season – it’s chalk and cheese from last season.

“It’s a real team effort. Things are really gelling well and we have made improvements. We have clearly made big strides, but we haven’t done anything yet.

“We want to get out of this league and take the club as high as we possibly can.

“First and foremost, we have to get into the play-off spots and higher, but the realistic aim at the moment, as we’re just outside of it, is wanting to get in [to the play-offs].

“Once we get in, then we want to stay in and see where it takes us.”
