Joint top of the home clean sheets table – and Charlton man has more assists than Liverpool star Mane

Charlton Athletic’s Craig MacGillivray is the only goalkeeper in England’s top four divisions to have two assists this season – and is joint top of the charts for clean sheets at home.

The former Portsmouth stopper has kept 12 shutouts in total – with 10 of those coming at The Valley. The only player who can match that haul on home turf is Bristol Rovers’ James Belshaw.

MacGillivray has twice produced long kicks for Conor Washington to go through and score, the most recent of those coming in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Burton Albion.

It means that the Charlton man has the same number of assists as Manchester City’s Jack Grealish and one more than Liverpool’s Sadio Mane.

MacGillivray had been the subject of some criticism during the Addicks’ poor run of form but has noW kept three clean sheets in a row in SE7, and will be aiming to make it a hat-trick of back to back ones when the club head to Doncaster this weekend.

“He has been excellent in the last couple of games,” said Charlton manager Johnnie Jackson. “Yeah, questions were asked and all you want from players is a response and I think he’s done that, he’s been brilliant in the last few games.

“That record is probably a reflection of the team, isn’t it? Our home form has been pretty good, pretty solid and our away form has been not so good. That’s something we need to look at. There have not been enough clean sheets away from home.

“That home record is a nice one for him and a timely reminder that he’s a top goalkeeper at this level. We just need to bring more out of him – and the team as a collective.”
