Jon Dadi Bodvarsson on his goal against Fulham, his verdict on VAR and Millwall’s display

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson is not an advocate for VAR – even though it could have cleared up his equalising goal in Millwall’s 1-1 draw with Fulham.

The Icelandic international was in an offside position when he netted on Wednesday night but debate centred on whether Josh Onomah got a touch on Shaun Hutchinson’s header just before that.

“I was just trying to time it right not to be offside,” said Bodvarsson. “Then I saw the Fulham players were not happy with that.

“It was a bit of a VAR moment, you weren’t sure if it was a goal or not. I don’t like it [VAR]. Football is a game of emotions and mistakes. That’s how it should be.

“I think the Fulham player had the last touch, but I might be wrong. I haven’t seen it again, but that’s how I felt it was.

“Thankfully they decided to give it. It’s just good to get back on the mark.

“We were much more aggressive [than against West Brom]. We won more second balls and pestered much better as a team defensively.

“Performance-wise it was good. The energy levels were really high in the first half. It maybe died out a little bit in the second half but we still were disciplined enough to get at least a point.

“You might say we were in a little bit of a rut lately but then again we’ve been playing top sides.”

Jed Wallace missed a penalty that could have made it 2-1 – his powerful kick striking the top of the crossbar.

“When I looked at his reaction he was a bit surprised,” said Bodvarsson. “Because he is doing extra every training session to keep on top of it.

“Eventually it happens with players that they miss penalties. He has been excellent on them.

“I doubt it will affect him.”
