Jonathan Leko is back at Charlton Athletic – deadline day loan move for Birmingham attacker
Jonathan Leko has signed up for a second loan spell at Charlton Athletic – to make it three deadline day deals for the South London club.
The Addicks had already confirmed the arrival of Forest midfielder Harry Arter on loan this afternoon and also a permanent deal for Morecambe centre-back Sam Lavelle shortly after the 11pm cut-off for transfers to be submitted.
Leko was the final piece of incoming transfer activity for Charlton.
The 23-year-old joined the Addicks in August 2019 from West Bromwich Albion, only for a serious knee injury to curtail his stay – as he headed back to his parent club in the January window. He had scored five goals in 21 appearances.
Leko made the move across the Midlands to Birmingham City in August 2020 on a three-year contract.
He had featured in four of the Blues’ opening five Championship matches as well as starting both of their EFL Cup games.
Leko told Charlton’s official website: “I’m looking forward to hitting the ground running, meeting the lads, there is a few new players from last time I was here and there are a few that were here before too. I can’t wait to get back to The Valley and get back playing, doing well and meeting all the fans – I just can’t wait.”
