Key AFC Wimbledon man faces race to be fit for EFL Cup tie at Arsenal
AFC Wimbledon head coach Mark Robinson says there is a “slight possibility” that joint-top goalscorer Jack Rudoni will be fit for the trip to the Emirates to take on Arsenal in the third round of the EFL Cup.
Rudoni, who was left out of the squad for last Saturday’s 4-3 win against Morecambe, will also miss this weekend’s game at home to Plymouth Argyle.
“Jack has a slight muscle injury,” Robinson told the South London Press.
“He won’t be fit for Saturday, but he’s not too far away. There’s a slight possibility he could be okay for Arsenal.”
On Rudoni’s injury, Robinson added: “He felt it at the very last minute against Portsmouth. He just felt a slight tweak, and it felt slightly worse the next day. With a long season ahead, we have just got to be careful with him.
“He is going to do a little bit of running on Friday, and we expect him to be back to full training on Monday, fingers crossed.”
Despite Rudoni working his way back to full fitness, Robinson will be without Paul Kalambayi, who is scheduled to be out for six to eight weeks with a muscle injury he picked up in the 5-3 EFL Trophy win against Portsmouth.
“Paul has picked up an injury which we need to do further investigation, but that could keep him out for six to eight weeks. It’s a bit of a muscle injury,” said Robinson.
Luke McCormick, who was on the bench last weekend, had a “ bad” dead leg and could have only managed 10-15 minutes. However, the summer signing from Chelsea has fully recovered in time for this Saturday’s upcoming home game.
While Paul Osew, who scored the winner in the first round of the EFL Cup away to Charlton, is expected to return to full training on Monday.
Robinson’s side face Arsenal away next Wednesday night for a place in the fourth round of the EFL Cup.
