Lee Bowyer and Johnnie Jackson to be guests at Back To The Valley dinner
Lee Bowyer and Johnnie Jackson – both former Charlton Athletic players and managers – will be attending Thursday’s 30 Years Back at The Valley anniversary dinner.
Bowyer led the Addicks to League One play-off final success in 2019.
The former midfielder also started his career in the youth ranks of the South London club before a £2.8million move to Leeds United in 1996, then a British transfer fee record for a teenager.
Bowyer had 157 matches in charge of the Addicks after replacing Karl Robinson as boss in March 2018, initially on a caretaker basis. He resigned in March 2021 to take over at Birmingham City, another of his old clubs.
Jackson scored 51 goals in 243 appearances for Charlton and skippered Chris Powell’s side when they romped to the League One title in 2012.
He had two caretaker spells as manager before landing the job after Nigel Adkins’ dismissal in December 2021. But Addicks owner Thomas Sandgaard opted not to keep him in charge at the end of the last League One campaign.
Jackson was swiftly appointed AFC Wimbledon manager on a two-year contract.
Charlton have invited guests from all different eras with Radostin Kishishev and Sasa Ilic recently confirmed as attending. Colin Walsh, Simon Webster, Bob Bolder, Garry Nelson and Alan Curbishley and Steve Gritt – joint managers when the club sealed their return to SE7 – will also be at the event.
The dinner – as with all 30th anniversary events – will be raising funds for the Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT) with 25 per cent of the proceeds from the evening, together with the monies raised at the special auction taking place at the dinner, going to support the award-winning work of CACT.
Tickets, which include a three-course meal and wine for the table, begin at £80 +VAT per person, with tables starting at £800 +VAT.
