Lee Bowyer can’t wait for Charlton owner Thomas Sandgaard to experience a packed Valley
Lee Bowyer is pleased that Thomas Sandgaard got to experience Charlton Athletic winning in front of some sort of crowd at The Valley.
The Addicks were allowed 2,000 supporters in for Saturday’s 5-2 win over AFC Wimbledon.
Sandgaard, who took control of the SE7 club at the end of September, has flown in from the USA to watch the derby and tonight’s home fixture against Bristol Rovers.
Bowyer said: “Overall it was a good home performance. It was good for the fans to see that and what type of group we’ve got, what they are capable of.
“I’m just looking forward to everyone getting there. When there are a lot more fans there, when it’s allowed, because the atmosphere is very good.
“I think that’s a little taster for him – winning with a crowd there. But not all the games will be like that – we don’t score five goals every week!”
Bowyer was set to go through the goals that the Addicks conceded at the weekend.
Joe Pigott whipped home a superb strike from the edge of the box with Dan Csoka unmarked to head in an Alex Woodyard cross as the visitors led at the interval.
Jake Forster-Caskey, Jonny Williams, Chuks Aneke and Ben Purrington all scored after the hour mark to turn the contest around.
Bowyer said: “We’ll go through the defensive side of the game again today (Monday) – because we were in control of the game. I don’t think Ben [Amos] had touched the ball before he was picking it out of the net.
“That’s disappointing. When you’re in control you can’t just switch off. There was a five-minute lapse of concentration where we went a bit AWOL which is not really like us.
“We’ll address the goals. We all know you can’t let a forward, especially someone of Pigott’s standard, receive on the edge of the box, turn and shoot without anyone near him. It never happens to our centre-forwards.
“We addressed it at half-time and fixed the problem. In the second half we were much better. We were professional and in possession we got stronger as the game went on.
“The substitutes made a big impact. That is what they are there to do.
“We could’ve probably had a few more. Chuks had a few chances, the keeper made a good save from one where the angle was a bit narrow.”
