Lee Bowyer casts doubts on futures of Charlton duo Mark Marshall and Tariqe Fosu as both fail to make match day squad again
Charlton boss Lee Bowyer casted doubt on the futures of Tariqe Fosu and Mark Marshall as they were both left out of the Addicks squad once again.
Neither were on the bench for the 2-0 win at Gillingham on Saturday, despite injuries meaning that youngsters like Alfie Doughty were included in the squad.
Fosu hasn’t featured in the last six matchday squads, with Marshall’s last appearance even further back in mid-March.
Both are out of contract at the end of this season but they have been bit-part players during this campaign.
“Their contracts are up, we’ll have to see what happens come the end of the season,” explained Bowyer.
“The pair of them have to work hard. You have to remember, I watch training every single day. That’s where a lot of these players get judged. Especially the ones that are part of the squad or a sub on matchdays.
“If I don’t see you working hard, don’t see you put a shift in, don’t see you playing for the team, then you’re not going be involved. We haven’t got this far this season being a team of individuals. We got this far because we are a team. Everybody works hard for everybody. That’s what it boils down to.
“Both of them, their contracts are up in the summer. I’ve been watching u23 games of late and Alfie scored two against Burnley the other week and I thought he was outstanding. I thought I’m going to reward him. I spoke to (u23s manager) Jason Euell and said who do you think deserves it more and he says that Alfie deserves his chance to be in and amongst it.”
