Lee Bowyer provides contract update on Charlton Athletic defender
Charlton are trying to find out from the EFL if they are able to re-sign Adam Matthews .
The Addicks are under a transfer embargo which prevents them offering new signings wages of more than £1,300 a week.
Matthews, 28, is a free agent after his Valley terms expired.
He made 29 appearances for Charlton last season. The former Sunderland man arrived in SE7 at the start of September, he was able to move outside of the transfer window due to being unattached following his release by the Black Cats.
“We’re trying to sign him,” Addicks manager Lee Bowyer told the South London Press. “We’re trying to offer him a new deal and he’s interested as well.
“But we’re just waiting for clarification from the EFL, for them to give us a bit of feedback.
“He did really well for us last season, I definitely thought he was one of our top-five performers last season, probably even higher than that.
“If we can sign him that will be good.”
