Lee Bowyer provides injury update on Charlton trio after win over Burton Albion

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer says that both Krystian Bielik and Jonny Williams are likely to remain side-lined for Saturday’s trip to Bristol Rovers.

He also revealed the reason Joe Aribo was withdrawn twenty minutes of the end of Tuesday’s 2-1 home win over Burton Albion.

Aribo had been nursing a tight groin after the victory over Portsmouth on Saturday but Bowyer says that wasn’t why he made an early exit this against the Brewers.

“Joe is ill,” he explained,

“Yesterday he came into work, didn’t feel good and he said he got worse through the night. He keeps coughing, he’s chesty. He looked like he wasn’t his normal self, that’s why we brought him off. He wasn’t his normal self, that was obvious to see.”

Bielik and Williams both struggled with hamstring injuries over the weekend and were absent on Tuesday evening.

“We’re hopeful that Bielik might be OK to be in the squad on Saturday. Jonny Williams is not going to be involved, it’s a little bit longer.

“Krystian it depends how he goes Thursday and Friday. He wasn’t in the squad today. As we stand today, if he doesn’t improve quite a lot then he won’t be involved. We won’t take any risks with him.”

Great performance with an impossibly small squad. Keep it up good luck.

Could see Joe wasn’t right. After reading LB’s comments I’m surprised he started, credit to the lad.
