‘Let them off the hook’ – Johnnie Jackson left frustrated as AFC Wimbledon settle for point in Morecambe draw

AFC Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson believed his side dropped two points in their 1-1 draw at home to Morecambe on Saturday afternoon.

Omar Bugiel gave the Dons the lead with his eighth of the season just after the half-time whistle when Josh Kelly flicked Ronan Curtis’ cross towards the back post and the Lebanese striker fired past Archie Mair.

Moracmbe equalised in the 74th minute when Chris Stokes converted from close range after the Dons failed to clear their lines.

Josh Davison went close late on when he met Armani Little’s cross into the area, flicking a header towards goal that went just wide of Mair’s post.

Wimbledon stayed just one point off the top seven but missed the chance to close the gap to sixth-placed Barrow.

“It’s a game we should win,” said Jackson.

“For the most part, we were completely dominant.

“We should come away with three points – we let them off the hook a little bit.

“After we scored the goal, the game was there to take it away from them and we didn’t get the second.

“You leave yourself open and that’s football – you’re going to have one chance or a moment.

“They had one that they scored from. They stay in the game, get that and see it out for a point.

“Frustrating from that point of view. It was good that we dominated the game for as much as we did, because they’re a good team.

“But to not get the reward was a little frustrating.

“I can’t be too disappointed with the boys. They have given everything and it was a good performance.”
