Lewisham light-heavyweight Dan Azeez in action tomorrow – and hungry for 2019 title shots

Rising light-heavyweight star Dan Azeez returns on Friday – and hopes a win at York Hall could lead to a shot at the Southern Area title in his next fight.

The Lewisham man (6-0, three stoppages) faces Stanislav Eschner on the MTK Global bill which is live on iFL TV. Azeez, 29, is looking to be fast-tracked to big things in 2019.

He said: “Once I get this fight out of the way I should be challenging for titles, and I’d love to have the Southern Area title.

“I’ll be keeping a close eye on Andre Sterling vs. Ricky Summers this weekend. Sterling trains where I do and I spar with him so I know him quite well.

“He fought Kirk Garvey in his last fight and Garvey could be a potential opponent in the near future too. I’m heading towards those types of fights.

“I’m looking forward to getting back in the ring on Friday. It’s my first fight since October and I can’t wait to compete at York Hall again as I love fighting there.

“Training has gone really well, so I’m excited to get in the ring and remind everybody just what I’m capable of ahead of a big 2019.”

The main event of the show at York Hall features a clash for the WBO European welterweight title between Paddy Gallagher and Freddy Kiwitt. There is also an undercard featuring Siar Ozgul, Liam Wells, Sultan Zaurbek, Josh Adewale, Donovan Mortlock, Jack Ewbank and Michael Elliott.
