Lincoln City 0 AFC Wimbledon 0 – Drab finish to League One season which wasn’t a big miss for fans

AFC Wimbledon played out a drab end of season draw at Lincoln City’s LNER Stadium where the lack of anything meaningful riding on the game meant the teams performed little better than the stadium sponsors’ trains as they took a point apiece from what was an otherwise pointless encounter.

Head coach Mark Robinson made three changes to the side that lost to Portsmouth with Ayoub Assal, Paul Kalambayi and Luke O’Neill replacing Ryan Longman, Ben Heneghan and Nesta Guinness-Walker respectively.

For a dead rubber the game started brightly with both sides looking to dominate and Nik Tzanev did well to save from Brennan Johnson with the Lincoln striker clean through.

With a goal ruled out for offside and some wayward finishing, the hosts certainly shaded the opening period and would have felt a little unlucky not to take a lead into the interval.

The second half, by contrast, was worse with the tempo slowing to a snails pace as neither side looked particularly interested in forcing the pace.

The Imps could be forgiven for having one eye on the upcoming play-offs and the Dons for feeling that in sealing League One football for another season their business for this term was completed.

As a season played behind closed doors ground to a halt, this was one game the fans did well to miss.
