Looking to the long arm of the law to get first pre-season win

Wally Downes’ AFC Wimbledon will take on Met Police at Imber Court (7.45pm) tonight, looking to secure a first win of pre-season.

They were on the end of a sixth successive defeat of their preparations when they were beaten 2-0 by League Two Plymouth in La Manga, Spain in the last game of their overseas trip.

They will now be looking to get a win under their belts against the Met or Hampton & Richmond at the Beveree Stadium on Saturday, before they host Crystal Palace at Kingsmeadow on July 30.

The Dons’ season kicks-off with a home fixture against newly-relegated Rotherham United at home on August 3.

They secured their future in League One ironically with a 0-0 draw at Bradford, which sent Plymouth down to League Two.

But Argyle had some sort of revenge by scoring against the run of play in Spain at the weekend.

The Dons hit the post through an Adam Roscrow header, and also had the ball in the net when Dylan Connolly finished smartly from Anthony Hartigan’s pass, but it was chalked off for offside.

Instead, it was the Devonians who struck twice in the first half through Danny Mayor, whose fine run and finish gave Nathan Trott no chance in the 33rd minute. The same player set up the second with a cross to the back post, converted by Joel Grant.

Downes made nine changes at half-time, with the second period staying goalless.

AFC Wimbledon: Nathan Trott (Nik Tzanev), Luke O’Neill (Kyron Stabana), Rod McDonald, Terell Thomas (Will Nightingale), Scott Wagstaff (Anthony Wordsworth), Adam Roscrow (Michael Folivi), trialist (Jack Rudoni), Nesta Guinness-Walker (Mitch Pinnock), Shane McLoughlin (Dylan Connolly), Paul Kalambayi (Anthony Hartigan), Joe Pigott (Kwesi Appiah).
