Lyle Taylor gives his verdict on AFC Wimbledon clinching League One status for next season
BY RICHARD CAWLEY
Lyle Taylor has praised AFC Wimbledon’s players for beating the drop from League One.
The former Dons fans’ favourite moved to Charlton Athletic in the summer.
And Taylor admits his old club produced an unbelievable turnaround. A 0-0 draw at Bradford City on Saturday ensured the South London club stayed up.
Taylor said: “Fair play to them.
“They’ve stuck at it and they’ve grafted and they’ve grafted. It’s a credit to the boys they’ve managed to stay up.
“I’d extend my best wishes to them and say ‘well done’. Because what they achieved was nigh-on impossible four-five months ago.”

Wasn’t that long ago Lyle that you were running your mouth saying these players had let Neal Ardley down and making smart @rs comments to them when we played at the Valley. You may be popular with a vocal minority at Wimbledon but most of us remember how you ran your contract out so we didn’t get a transfer fee and how you sulked every time you had to play in an attacking three when you’d spend most of the game whining and arguing with the referee, making little contribution. Appreciate the ego is part of what makes you a top striker and this level Lyle but you are not a soundbite for us anymore so give it a rest.
Stu, I think you’re probably in the minority… Lyle is Wimbledon legend. Stop being bitter.
Being able to see Lyle for what he is doesn’t make someone ‘bitter’. And plenty of us can see what he is. He lost any status with Wimbledon when he started behaving like a bell end towards us. Do appreciate a player fan boy can’t see. Enjoy.
I would imagine the vast majority of AFC Wimbledon fans really appreciate the sentiments Lyle. We are also aware enough to realise that players such as Lyle are ambitious and wish him the very best. Of course it’s a shame we didn’t get a transfer fee for him, but that’s very often football at this level. Hope to see you back playing for AFC one day at Plough Lane. Now go and win the play offs Lyle!!
Lyle was one of the key players who won us promotion to league 1, performing all season and scoring a vital goal at Accrington in the playoff semi and scoring the winner at Wembley. He will always be a Wimbledon hero.
