Mark Robinson: Wimbledon put in best attacking display in victory over Swindon Town

Mark Robinson reckoned his AFC Wimbledon side put in their best attacking display under him in Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Swindon Town.

The Dons have won three consecutive games to pull clear of the League One relegation zone.

A brace from Joe Pigott and a goal each from Will Nightingale and Ayoub Assal means Wimbledon have scored 12 goals in three games.

Speaking to AFC Wimbledon’s club website, head coach Robinson said: “The players believed in what we are doing. People say it’s very easy for me to say that, when we’ve done it [scored 12 goals in three games]. [Prior to the last three games] there were lots of thing that we were doing as well as bits missing.

“There were performances, like Plymouth away, where if you look at the stats in terms of chances and shots, were very similar. We talked about finding those extra layers and we’ve found them.

“So I still maintain that it has been a process. We had to get solid, we had to get hard to beat, which we did. Then after that you have to find the goals, and we’ve found them in the last three games.

“Nothing’s cured because we have to keep doing it. Teams are going to look at us now and look at what we’re doing and how we can hurt them. We’ve got to keep pursuing ways to keep hurting teams and scoring goals.”

Robinson praised the attacking intent of the team and individual players.

“Going forward it’s the best we’ve been, we played so quick and in so many ways. Whether it was quick combinations, one touch, going in behind, there was a bit of everything going in, including some great individual skills as well.

“That carried on in the second half with Ollie [Palmer] down here on the touchline. Going forward we were so exciting today.”
