Matty Godden admits Charlton were naive during Blackpool draw – but looks to keep things in perspective after good run

Charlton forward Matty Godden looked to keep things in perspective after the Addicks threw away a two-goal lead at Blackpool.

The South Londoners seemed to be coasting to an away victory as Godden and an own-goal from Olly Casey had them in command shortly after the break.

But the Seasiders struck back twice in the closing stages to stop Charlton climbing into League One’s top six.

They’ve now lost just once in 11 league outings and are only outside the play-off places on goal difference.

Godden, who has bagged 11 goals in all competitions this season, said: “The dressing room was gutted that we couldn’t hold on. We were brilliant, it was almost the perfect away performance. You can see how far we’ve come as a club and as a team over especially the last two months. It’s definitely two points dropped but before the game, Blackpool is always a tough place to come so you look at it, you probably take the point. But then with the situation that we were in at 2-0 up, you want to go away with three so that’s the feeling in the dressing room.

“We were a little bit naive as a team and we let them back into the game. It’s a tough scoreline 2-0, as silly as that sounds. You concede next, it’s really game on. It’s a horrible scoreline but we still back ourselves to hold onto that lead and we’re disappointed that we couldn’t. At 2-0 up we just probably needed to manage the game a little bit better and just try and see the game out in a nasty way.

“We know we’re in a real good place, we know how far we’ve come. The disappointment’s there because of the circumstances around being 2-0 up. You come to Blackpool and a lot of teams will lose here, top teams will lose here. We take a point and then we bounce into the next round of fixtures. We’ve taken 10 points from 12 again and we’re in a good place.”
