Michael Beale pushing for glory as his QPR reign starts at Blackburn Rovers
Michael Beale’s reign as QPR manager kicks off for real as they head to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday for their opening match of the 2022-23 Championship season.
The 41-year-old, born in Bromley, was appointed by the Loftus Road outfit on June 1.
The R’s opted not to extend Mark Warburton’s time in charge after they failed to sustain a promotion challenge in the previous campaign, finishing nine points adrift of the play-offs and in 11th place.
Beale had previously been the assistant to Steven Gerrard at Glasgow Rangers and Aston Villa.
“Out of all the opportunities that came up, I felt this one fitted,’ he told the Daily Mail. “It’s not the club with the most money in the world to spend right now but it’s got good strong ownership and they support you.
“The club has gone through a difficult period and had three years of stability and this is the challenge to push back to the promised land.”
QPR’s final warm-up saw them lose 3-0 at home to Crystal Palace last weekend.
Eberechi Eze marked his return to west London with a stunning goal with Wilfried Zaha also on target twice.
Forward Charlie Kelman, 20, has joined Leyton Orient on a season-long loan.
