Millwall 1 Brentford 1 – Lions share spoils as Tom Bradshaw unable to make most of big second half chance
Millwall made it two draws in a row at home in the Championship as they more than held their own against Brentford at The Den.
The Bees are one of promotion favourites but fell behind after four minutes.
Mason Bennett did excellently down the left to force his way forward and his left-wing cross was headed home by Jed Wallace, who had netted the winner at Rotherham United last weekend.
But the South Londoners conceded their first goal of the 2020-21 campaign in the 21st minute. Referee David Coote ruled that Shaun Hutchinson had impeded Ivan Toney as he looked to connect with a cross. The £10million addition from Peterborough stepped up himself to send Bart Bialkowski the wrong way from the penalty spot.
Mahlon Romeo was unlucky not to put Millwall back in front before the break as his bullet of a strike smashed back off the right upright.
Brentford started the second period well and Scott Malone needed to make a vital block to deny Josh Da Silva before Christian Norgaard met a Emiliano Marcondes corner at the near post but could only send his attempt across the face of the goal.
Luke Daniels tipped over another Romeo strike before Millwall failed to make the most of their best chance to make it 2-1. Bennett’s backheel flick on a Jed Wallace cross cued up Tom Bradshaw but he failed to even hit the target.
