Millwall 4 Sheffield Wednesday 1 – Lions win big to end wait for three points at The Den in style

Millwall ended their wait for only a second Championship win at The Den this season with an emphatic 4-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday.

The Lions had not enjoyed a league victory in SE16 since they dispatched Luton Town on October 20.

It ends a 10-game spell in South London without a win for Gary Rowett’s side and it was richly deserved with the home side creating 21 efforts -nine of those on target.

Millwall had to come from behind with Callum Paterson putting them ahead after 10 minutes, finishing at the second attempt after a surging break into the box by Elias Kachunga.

The Lions levelled when Joey Pelupessy pulled back Ryan Leonard inside the penalty area and Kenneth Zohore finished from the spot.

Millwall were totally dominant after the break and Owls keeper Keiren Westwood made a couple of big saves to deny Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and Shaun Hutchinson.

Westwood plunged to his right to keep out a Ben Thompson shot with Chey Dunkley getting a vital touch on Jake Cooper’s follow up.

But moments later the Wednesday stopped was picking the ball out of his net, Scott Malone’s shot squeezing under his body after 68 minutes.

Almost instantly it went 3-1 as Thompson rifled in from just outside the area – it looked as if the midfielder was attempting to whip in a cross.

Tom Bradshaw got a slight touch on Mahlon Romeo’s shot to make it 4-0 in the dying embers. The Millwall wing-back had intercepted Barry Bannan’s crossfield pass and gone for goal.

The Lions are undefeated in five Championship matches.
