Millwall assistant on Mahlon Romeo return and the challenge of Burnley or Sheffield United next
Millwall assistant manager Adam Barrett was pleased to see Mahlon Romeo back on a football pitch.
The right-back played 60 minutes of Millwall’s 3-1 win over Cheltenham Town in the EFL Cup last night.
“I’m delighted for Mahlon to be back out there,” said Barrett. “It’s good to get him his first minutes under his belt and he’s come through it unscathed and we are delighted with that.
Shane Ferguson was one of seven changes made by Lions boss Gary Rowett and he assisted two of the three goals.
“We’ve got great competition for places within the squad which is great,” said Barrett.
“They are a great group which is all together and they have to fight for the shirts. It’s a long season, it’s not going to be the same team every week and the same players.
“That’s why it’s important we’ve got games like tonight to give them the game time they need and make sure that everyone is ready and sharp for the weekend.”
The Lions will face either Sheffield United or Burnley in the next round with their fixture not being played until Thursday.
“It’s going to be difficult, two very good sides,” said Barrett.
“We will prepare properly for it, we’ve got a lot of belief in our squad and our players. I’m sure it’s a test that all the players will be looking forward to. I know it’s one as staff we will be looking forward to as well.”
