Millwall attacker got major confidence-booster in FA Cup win over Barnsley

Millwall manager Neil Harris reckons Aiden O’Brien got the perfect confidence-booster with his brace in today’s 4-1 FA Cup win over Barnsley.

The attacker, recently called up to the last couple of Republic of Ireland squads, netted for the first time since September 16.

“I’m delighted for Aiden,” said Harris. “Every game he has played he has been a goal threat and been denied by goal-line clearances and the woodwork. He got a couple today and that will do his confidence the world of good.

“Jed should’ve added to his tally today. Steve Morison’s guile and experience was outstanding. His link-up play with Fred [Onyedinma] was good. I’m delighted we had three young goalscorers on the scoresheet.”

O’Brien’s second goal was the pick of the bunch, a first time strike from the edge of the box after Wallace’s shot was blocked.

He had gone 18 matches with a goal before today.

“It was a great strike,” said Harris. “A 20-yard shot into the bottom corner. He’s got that ability to cut in from the left and bend it with his right foot. Aiden is a quality player and is difficult to mark.

“Fred got his first goal of the season. It is not just about scoring goals, it is what you do without the ball.”
