Millwall attacker Zian Flemming nominated for Championship Player of the Month for October
Millwall attacker Zian Flemming has been nominated for the Championship Player of the Month for October.
The Dutchman, a club record £1.7million signing from Fortuna Sittard in the summer, scored four goals in that period including a sumptuous long-range finish against Rotherham United.
Blackpool’s Jerry Yates, who netted seven times and bagged one assist is also up for the award along with centre-back Auston Trusty (Birmingham) and striker Viktor Gyokeres (Coventry).
Millwall boss Gary Rowett told the South London Press: “It was one of those months where you felt Zian was really starting to settle into the Championship and understand what it is about.
“He scored very different types of goals, which is nice for us. He scores a spectacular goal against Rotherham but he also scores a couple of different goals against Middlesbrough – one a header and one a knockdown from a set-piece.
“I spoke to him a little bit about gambling and getting into the box a little bit more. That’s something that is probably a bit different for him but he can head the ball really well and times his runs really well. He’s done that really well for Sittard and we feel that’s something he can probably do a little bit more but maybe the Championship, when you see those big and horrible centre-halves there is a bit more of a reluctance to go in there.
“When he does start gambling a little bit more I think we’ll see even more goals.
“I’ve been really pleased with him. We need one or two more to have those type of months because they are the months that can really win you games – you want players in really good form. You need two or three players to be hitting those heights.
“When we signed Zian we spoke about how rounded a player he is. He takes a free-kick with his right foot, he scores at Rotherham with his left foot, he scores a header, he scores a tap-in. He can score all types of goals, that’s the big thing for me. It’s why he is such a good player for us.”
