Millwall boss already has one target for next season

By Richard Cawley

Neil Harris will be setting a 50-point safety target for his Millwall side when they recommence Championship battle next season – despite finishing this campaign in eighth place.

A 1-0 victory over Aston Villa today saw the Lions cap off an excellent first season back in English football’s second tier.

Harris said: “The aim on August 1 and the lead up to the season will be to get to 50 points. There has to be a realism about what we have achieved this year.

“We have set some tremendous records this year for the football club and mixed it with the best. We have fallen slightly short [of the play-offs] and will try and improve over the summer. That is not easy, but we have improved every transfer window I’ve been here.”

The Lions chief also spelled out his desire once again to hold onto star performers like Shaun Hutchinson, Jake Cooper, George Saville and Jed Wallace.

“No-one is for sale, that’s for sure,” he said. “We’ll take stock of what we have achieved this year – where the squad was strong enough and not strong enough. We will try and improve next year.”
