Millwall boss Gary Rowett confirms how many more deals he expects to do in transfer window

Gary Rowett reckons it is likely that Millwall will only sign one more player in this transfer window.

The Lions snapped up Ryan Woods on loan from Stoke City on Friday with the 26-year-old, pictured inset, making his debut in the 2-0 weekend win over Reading.

Rowett confirmed to the South London Press last week that he is interested in Derby striker Mason Bennett.

And the 45-year-old has underlined that Millwall – seventh in the Championship – are not going to be hugely busy before the deadline passes.

“Realistically we’ll probably do one more,” said Rowett. “I don’t really see a need to make more changes. There’s areas long term that we would like to strengthen – just the depth and amount of players in that position.

“But at the same time you could see at the weekend that we’ve got a lot of players who I think have got more potential – Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and Connor Mahoney, just to name a couple.

“We have to be careful we don’t bring in too many and it stops them getting an opportunity.

“I do feel that we need the opportunity to bring something different in the forward area, but potentially everywhere else we are okay.

“Sometimes you have to leave the door ajar for the likes of James Brown and Billy Mitchell. And there are a few in our U23s who are pushing to be involved.”

Bennett would be a temporary deal if it comes off.

“I’m not a massive fan of loan deals,” said Rowett. “But any loan deal we do – like Ryan Woods – there has to be a bit of an opportunity to keep players longer. I’m not saying it is a definite, just an opportunity.”

Jason McCarthy has rejoined Wycombe Wanderers on loan – the Lions paid a five-figure sum to the Chairboys to take the right-back in the summer.

He put in a man of the match display in their win over Rochdale.

“He made it clear he really wanted to play games and I think we’ve got a really good young player in James Brown,” said Rowett.

“He has got huge, huge potential for the future.”
