Millwall boss Gary Rowett gives verdict on when January transfer window starts to heat up
BY RICHARD CAWLEY
Gary Rowett reckons that it usually takes until the second week of January for the transfer window to get into full swing – and the Millwall chief is ready to wait to get his targets.
The Lions are sixth in the Championship after yesterday’s 3-1 win over Luton Town.
And Rowett has talked before about adding at least a couple of players to a small squad which is already missing the likes of Ryan Leonard (knee) and Ben Thompson (ankle).
Asked about the chances of moving quickly in the window, Rowett told the South London Press: “It’s always hard to do that.
“I’m only going on my experiences previously. Every manager up and down the country would want to get a player in on January 1 – signed and sealed. But it really is just not that easy.
“We are working really hard with the recruitment team, we’ve had lots of recruitment meetings.
“Realistically the second week of January is the time that anybody does much.
“I’d rather wait for the right signings rather than sign the wrong one.”
