Millwall boss Gary Rowett: It’s hard to think of too many poor away displays in the league from my team

Gary Rowett was delighted to see his Millwall side produce another away day special – and reckons their performance just about merited taking maximum points away from Reading on Saturday.

The fifth-placed Royals suffered a sixth home reverse in the Championship. Only Watford, Norwich, Brentford and Swansea have taken more points at home this season.

Millwall have banked 23 points on the road, the fifth-best return in England’s second tier.

Rowett said: “It would be interesting to look at our points return since we’ve been at the club with that away form. We’ve had some tremendous results. I can’t think of an awful lot that we have lost.

“Just off the top of my head I can rattle off [wins over] Derby, Swansea, a couple at Bristol [City], a couple at Preston, Forest and now the Reading one. We’ve had some really big performances away from home.

“Someone mentioned that Reading had won nine of their 14 home games. They have got fabulous players but on the whole we shut them down really well. After watching the game back I’d say we just about deserved to win.

“I was probably less complimentary about our performance [after the match] because there was a 20-minute spell in the first half I was disappointed with. But so often the emotion can cloud how you play. When I look back on it, as an away performance, it was pretty good overall.”
