Millwall boss Gary Rowett on being handed Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday gig covering Charlton Athletic match
Millwall manager Gary Rowett has talked about covering Charlton Athletic’s 1-1 draw against Wycombe Wanderers for Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday show.
The Lions boss had a free weekend with the Championship shutting down for international matches.
And Rowett was a studio guest who provided updates on Charlton’s Valley fixture.
Miles Leaburn put the Addicks ahead in the 16th minute. Wycombe centre-back Chris Forino headed home from a corner in the 82nd minute to ensure the points were shared.
“Sam, the producer on Soccer Saturday, was a bit mischevious giving me Charlton, as a Millwall manager,” Rowett told the South London Press. “It was a good game. I was looking forward to watching Charlton’s young front three, along with a few others, and Wycombe as well.
“They looked pretty much in control, without creating as many chances as they’d like. But you could see whenever (Jes) Rak-Sakyi got it on the right corner of the box that he looked so dangerous cutting in and using his left foot.
“Leaburn is a good player, who has got a bit of size. Look, I’m only saying this as someone who has watched the game – I’m not suggesting I’m doing a scouting report whilst doing it and that I’m going to try and sign all of them.
“They played some really good football and I think they’ll probably be disappointed they didn’t go and get another goal when they were 1-0 up. That was always going to be the key, Wycombe are the sort of side – a bit like us – who are never out of the game if it is 1-0.
“I quite enjoyed the game.”
