Millwall boss Gary Rowett sets sights on two signings before pre-season starts on July 1

Millwall manager Gary Rowett wants at least two signings before his squad report back for pre-season training on Thursday.

The Lions have only made one capture this summer – goalkeeper George Long on a free transfer from Hull City.

And the South London club are remaining tight-lipped over their attempts to land Sheffield Wednesday’s star attacker Josh Windass. Millwall have had two bids rejected for the 27-year-old, who is the son of former Bradford favourite Dean.

Reports from Yorkshire claim that the second offer was in the region of £1million.

Windass, who can play as an attacking midfielder or further advanced, top-scored with nine goals in 41 appearances last season for the Owls – impressive figures considering they lost their Championship status.

Team-mate Barry Bannan, formerly on Palace’s books, said: “He’s got everything – powerful, strong, good finisher and good technique.”

The ex-Rangers and Wigan man has one year left on his Wednesday deal, although there is also an option for a further 12 months.

Millwall are also cracking on with signing another forward player and we revealed earlier this week that they were close to adding a young defender on loan from a Premier League club.

The South Londoners are back at their Calmont Road training ground on July 1 before they head off the following week for a training camp in Scotland.

“I’m very clear that I’d like at least another couple [of signings] in the building before next Wednesday,” Rowett told the South London Press.

“Everyone is working hard but we really need to start pushing to get one or two of those players in before pre-season starts.”
