Millwall boss gives his take on Sheffield United loanee’s first Den runout
Gary Rowett has given his take on Oliver Burke’s first outing at The Den as a Millwall player.
The 24-year-old Sheffield United attacker has joined the Lions on loan for the remainder of the season.
And Burke made his first start for the South London club in today’s 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion. The Scottish international was the one change made by Millwall boss Rowett from the side which was beaten 1-0 at Blackpool as he replaced George Evans.
Rowett said: “He’s the type of player, when a game is tight like that and competitive, it’s always difficult. He’s won a few good headers and ran down the side a little bit.
“He hasn’t played football for a while. You’re not going to just get confidence instantly. You’ve got to work hard to do it.
“Second half you could see some of the runs and well-timed forays into the box he makes. He just couldn’t quite get on the end of it or find the finish.
“But he’ll be a terrific player for us. I’ve always liked him as a player. I’ve always felt if we can allow him to have one or two bad games, to get that run of games, so we can really see what he is about. He has fitted really well into the group. I can only judge him on what I’ve seen so far – I’ve really liked him.”
