Millwall boss happy to get first Championship point on the board – and clean sheet – at Hull City

Head coach Neil Harris stressed the importance of Millwall getting off the mark and securing their first point of the Championship season at Hull this afternoon after largely uneventful 0-0 draw at the MKM Stadium.

George Saville and Tom Bradshaw had the best chances for the away side and will perhaps feel slightly disappointed they did not get on the scoresheet.

“I’m really pleased with a point,” said Harris.  “I asked the boys for a clean sheet mentality and an importance of us getting back on the coach with a point or three today.

“There was a little bit of pressure on the group today with my demand but they dealt with it very well.

“We were excellent defensively. Excellent defensive shape, defended our box really well and when they did make their two chances, my goalkeeper made two vital saves for us.

“The only disappointment for me is we haven’t scored a goal at the end to win the game. I’m happy with a point, happy to get off the mark. It’s vital we got off the mark today but, if we are being a bit greedy, I did think we had the better chances and deserved to win.

“There is a little bit of disappointment (in the dressing room). More individually, I think, because they haven’t scored. Bradders, Sav and Coops are all a bit disappointed that they didn’t get on the scoresheet.

“As a group they know the importance of getting a point and a clean sheet on the road. It was vitally important we didn’t go back to The Den next week, against Sheffield Wednesday, without a point. I’ll praise my players for that, it doesn’t mean I’m willing to settle for a point because we deserved three for the chances we created.

“We nicked the ball back off Hull and looked really good on the transition. If we could have been a bit more clinical on the set-plays and attacking the ball we would have won the game.”
