Millwall boss has positive assessment of on-loan Burnley attacker
Joe Edwards was pleased with Michael Obafemi’s performance in Millwall’s 2-1 defeat at Coventry on Sunday afternoon.
The on-loan Burnley striker lasted 63 minutes against the Sky Blues, his longest spell since arriving at the club at the end of the January transfer window.
He could have doubled Millwall’s lead in the first half but was denied by City keeper Brad Collins midway through the first half.
Edwards, though, sees positive signs in his development.
“He was better, ” said Edwards. “First and foremost, before you look at anything he does, he gives that threat that the opponent has to be aware of. He’s always there on the shoulder and a potential outlet for us to go in behind.
“But today, he was more active and more involved. We said we were delighted to get a player of that pedigree and that level and add to our squad in the window, but we knew of the constraints around it. He’d been in a difficult position and played very little football, so it was always going to be a build-up.
“He came on in his first game for 15-20 minutes, 45 minutes last week, 60-odd today. And, naturally, you’re not going to hit the ground running, look fully fit and sharp, and start scoring goals when you’ve had the run-in he’s had. But signs today from his performance that it’s going in the right direction.”
