Millwall boss Neil Harris: Anything can happen before 11pm transfer deadline tonight

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Millwall manager Neil Harris admits that their hopes of bringing a striker in before tonight’s 11pm deadline are in the balance.

The Lions have been linked with loan moves for Middlesbrough’s Rudy Gestede, pictured above, and QPR’s Matt Smith.

The Championship outfit are keen to add to their frontline options with Tom Bradshaw (knee) out for the season and Tom Elliott missing with a shoulder injury.

Millwall have rarely done incoming business on the final day of a window. Normally their deals are completed comfortably before.

But Harris has revealed there are a number of reasons why things haven’t quite clicked into place.

He said: “It’s not often we get to the last day of the window trying to bring a player in.

“We find ourselves in that scenario for various reasons. There is very little money being spent in the window due to bigger clubs having spent their money and being frustrated at the prices in the market or because FFP dictates that they can’t spend – which of course brings a knock-on factor.

“It means you are not able to sign players from clubs because they are waiting to bring in their own players.

“There is also the huge disappointment of being let down by players. You can have something agreed that they will come and the player has a change of heart or change of mind at the last minute.

“Anything can happen before 11pm tonight. I don’t think it will be a straightforward day. Most managers up and down the country, unless they have consigned themselves to not doing any players in, will expect things to go to and fro up to the 11th hour.”
