Millwall boss Neil Harris on “cracking move” for defender – and when he will hit his peak

Millwall boss Neil Harris reckons Sid Nelson will not reach his full potential until he hits his late twenties.

The Lewisham-raised defender, 23, was released by the Lions at the end of last season. And Nelson, pictured above, has penned a two-year deal with Tranmere Rovers, where he ended the previous campaign on loan.

The South Londoner played in their League Two play-off final win at Wembley in May.

Harris said: “It is a cracking move for him and I am really pleased. He did really well with Micky Mellon and Michael Jackson last season and to win promotion in a play-off final can be the pinnacle of someone’s career.

“It’s a natural fit for him to stay and compete in League One. He is an excellent professional and with the attributes he has got he is going to get better and better. 

“Sid is going to hit his peak in his late 20s or early 30s with the way he plays and what he does.

“I wish him well. He is a cracking lad who has captained our U18, U21 and first team. We were desperate to find him a pathway through but the Championship is tough for youngsters to find their way through.

“It was a mutual decision with Sidney and his family that it was best to find him a new permanent residence.

“He is a player that I’ll still be staying in touch with.”
