Millwall boss on Middlesbrough loanee Josh Coburn fitting striker profile they need

Millwall head coach Alex Neil would like to retain the services of striker Josh Coburn beyond just this season.

Our paper exclusively revealed that the Lions explored a permanent deal for the Middlesbrough loanee in the winter transfer window.

Coburn, 22, has scored four goals in 13 appearances for Millwall and won the penalty which was dispatched by Mihailo Ivanovic in the 1-0 win over Stoke City last time out.

“He fits the profile of striker we like in our team,” Neil told the South London Press. “He is a bit different from Mihailo. Mihailo is probably more of a runner. Josh would be more of a link centre forward.

“The two of them balance off each other really well. Both can score a goal.

“We still need our striker to help the team. What I mean by that is that we are not the type of team that can just walk the ball up the pitch and the striker taps it in. He is going to have to take the ball in, win a flick-on or run a channel.

“There are certain elements of those strikers that we need specific tools for them to have.

“I feel as if Josh and Mihailo have got both.”
