Millwall boss on Murray Wallace starting at QPR – and provides injury update on Jake Cooper

Gary Rowett has revealed that Jake Cooper has had an injection to try and solve a back injury – but that Murray Wallace was already pushing hard for a Millwall start at QPR.

Cooper did not make the matchday squad for today’s 1-1 draw in west London.

Wallace (pictured above) played on the left of a back three.

Rowett said: “Coops has had an issue with his back. It’s been stiff, he’s felt it after games and it’s impinged his movement a tiny bit. He got through a little bit of the Gillingham game and some of the Ipswich game. He felt really stiff and we felt at this stage of the season, that we’d do something about it and get it injected.

“There is a possibility, a very small possibility, he could be fit for the Portsmouth game – but more than likely he would be fit for the Blackburn game.

“It would have been a difficult decision anyway. Murray Wallace has been fabulous pre-season – every bit as good as Coops. In truth that would have been a difficult decision to make.

“We wanted to make sure Coops was fine for the rest of the games, rather than just carrying something until the first international break.”
