Millwall boss provides injury update on captain Shaun Hutchinson after his early exit at Birmingham City

Gary Rowett revealed that Shaun Hutchinson came off with a calf injury during Millwall’s 1-1 draw at Birmingham City on Saturday lunchtime.

The Lions skipper came off in the 32nd minute of the game at St Andrew’s.

“He just felt his calf, ” said Rowett. “Disappointing – because you could see the solidity with him in there.

“We had Wes (Harding) coming on – I’ve got more than enough confidence that he’ll do the job in there. But when you lose your captain at a crucial point of the game, when you are doing well, it’s disappointing.

“It takes out a bit of continuity out of the team and the back three.

“He said he felt his calf tightening, so I’m hoping he felt it and came off before it got too serious. We’ve lost a lot of game time for Hutchy over the last couple of seasons. He’s such a crucial player – you need him on the pitch.”
